New PUC brochure entitled “Pennsylvania Energy Consumer Bill of Rights“.

Act 201 of 2004 – effective December 1, 2004, there are new rules under which utility companies can shut off service. The Public Utility Commission (PUC) has published a flyer regarding Act 201 of 2004 that describes the new rules under which utility companies can shut off service and the notice they must give. It includes the household income rules for the winter months and how to apply for Medical Certification.

$1 Energy Fund – partners with utility companies to provide assistance in the form of grants to families and individuals with difficulty affording adequate utilities in order to maintain basic living standards. Applicants must have also applied for LIHEAP Cash and Crisis grants.

LIHEAP – helps low income families pay their home heating bills through energy assistance grants. Provides Cash grants to eligible individuals in the form of direct payments to their utility/fuel companies. Also provides Crisis grants to individuals in emergency situations that are in jeopardy of losing their heat.

Energy Association of Pennsylvania – offers information about the merged Pennsylvania electric and gas companies. Also provides consumers with tips for efficient utility use.

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) – provides latest federal news and information concerning all of the bureaus and offices of the FCC.

Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) – information concerning Pennsylvania public utilities. Provides latest news, forms, rates, consumer information, and complaint procedures.

PAPowerSwitch – provides consumers with pricing information about competition among Pennsylvania utility companies. The website offers help choosing the lowest priced utilities available to individuals.

Pennsylvania Office of the Consumer Advocate – represents the interests of Pennsylvania utility customers appearing before the PUC. Website provides links to consumer information about shopping for utilities.
