Welcome to the Neighborhood

by Amy DeAngelis and Vineet Chander,
NLSA Interns, Pittsburgh office

As we began our summer internship at Neighborhood Legal Services, we were pleased that our assigned "sidebar" project could be the creation of the first issue of this newsletter. It is an honor to aid in the creation of a newsletter that both celebrates the accomplishments of this tireless staff and shares NLSA's mission and legal developments in our areas of specialty with the surrounding legal community.

We hope that this newsletter becomes a resource to NLSA attorneys and pro bono attorneys seeking to maintain current knowledge in the areas of law in which NLSA specializes.

Congratulations to Sara Buss, intern in the McKeesport office, winner of the "Name Our Newsletter" contest. Sara's creativity has generated this most fitting name, "The NLS Press," which will serve as the masthead of all future newsletters. Recognition also goes to the second place winner, Stephen Otto, an attorney in the Aliquippa office, for his submission "Neighborhood News."

We would like to extend a special thanks to Robert Racunas, Executive Director, Doreen Mitchell, Assistant in the McKeesport office, and Amy Carpenter, Attorney in the Pittsburgh office, for their participation on the Name Our Newsletter Committee. We would also like to thank Barbara Kern, Managing Attorney, for her devotion to this project. We invite you to pick up a copy and enjoy. Also, be sure to e-mail the contact information listed on page 8 to become a member of our listserve.
