Ship of Zion - provides transportation from the Hill, Hazelwood and Manchester so that local residents can work non-traditional hours when transportation is unavailable. Beginning in November of 2006, the Ship of Zion transportation project expanded service to the North Side. The SoZ provides free shuttle van rides to work, job interviews, and training sessions. Present routes go between Squirrel, Hazelwood, South Side, the Hill District, and now North Side. SoZ is a faith-based program designed to ease transportation barriers many residents face in
Pittsburgh's job market. Getting to work is a crucial sticking point for many employees, employers, and job seekers. Riders can transfer to or from Ship routes connecting with PAT routes to get to their destinations. Workers and job seekers now have more direct transportation options, making those of us without our own wheels more able to get to where we need when we need to. This opens up new job possibilities, as more potential workplaces are readily accessible from Hazelwood.
Destinations made more accessible by the new North Side route include:
CleanCare linen service;
Mascaro Construction Company;
Post Office sorting center; AlleghenyGeneralHospital
;
